The List: 5 Sleeper Hip-Hop Tracks

While hip-hop may arguably be the dominant genre in music these days, here are some hard-hitting tracks that you probably won't hear on MTV Jams or 106 and Park, but that are still great to bump in the whip or at the crib any day.

1. Yelawolf- "Throw it Up" (featuring Eminem and Gangsta Boo)
While this triad of two white boys and one dirty south diva may seem like an unlikely combination, make no mistake-- (contrary to the name) each one of these rappers throws down hard on this track. Yelawolf and Eminem each bring aggressive lyrics and machine gun-paced flow while Boo displays some real southern sass in the chorus and on her respective verse. 

"Get Down's" bold, rolling drum beat makes for some massive potential from the opening seconds. Taking the cue, Chip absolutely kills it on this one with a swagger as cold as Cleveland in the wintertime.

3. Los- "6'7' freestyle
While Lil' Wayne showed us why he is king of today's rap game on "6'7'", Los makes a damn good bid himself on this freestyle (just listen and you'll see why I used italics). Surprisingly clever lyrics that would make Weezy himself nod his head, along with a swift and seemingly effortless flow make this improvisation piece worthy of album status.

4. Outkast- "Spottieottiedopaliscious"
This smooth and funky sleeper comes from Outkast's early days--1998's Aquemini. Rather than actually rapping, Boi and Dre delve into a picturesque account of adolescence in the urban south.

5. Mos Def- "Hip Hop"
What exactly is hip-hop, you ask? Mos Def answers that question in roughly 3 minutes with his poetic analysis of the culture and ideology associated with the musical genre. Because the rap game is more than just beats and breaks...
