Miss Red

Miss Red is a fierce Israeli MC who fuses grime and acid with dancehall to create a sound that's fierce, mesmerizing, and border-defying. It's hard to use the term "cultural appropriation" today without sparking debate, but Miss Red has been able to flawlessly embody the cultures she subscribes to. Her latest mixtape, 2015's Murder, boats dark, industrial beats that pack plenty of punch, courtesy of British producer Kevin Martin. "My music is so layered with low end that her voice fits perfectly because it's at the other end of the spectrum," says Martin. Indeed, Red's squeaky patois wildly dips and dives into acidic crunches that create a unique sonic dichotomy. She really does sound Jamaican, but it doesn't sound in any capacity like she's trying to be something she's not. As a defiant female voice remixing mostly masculine influences, Red's music is boldly innovative.
