Alaska

If Tiny Moving Parts guitarist/lead vocalist Dylan Mattheisen quit the band and bassist/shouter Matthew Chevalier took over, they would probably sound like this. Alaska are a Nevada math rock band that play melancholy songs in the vein of the aforementioned Minnesota natives. Alaska's jams linger with the most subtle amounts of reverb that carry both piercing shouts and soft words of bassist Tyler Kawada and guitarist Joel Kirschenbaum. This is quality emo-infused math rock with enough rigid angst to keep if from getting too pointlessly atmospheric. Their music is like a fickle sea under a gray sky, one whose waves crash violently and then suddenly flatten out, giving way to a calm, awe-inspiring gloom.
