The List: My Essential Summer Playlist

Those few months out of the ear that nearly everyone looks forward to are right around the corner. Here are some of my favorite sun-soaked anthems to help make this summer one for the books.

Overly cheerful indie pop duo Cults sprinkle sparkling chimes into a euphoric synth whirlwind, invigorating any summer morning.

Shimmering surf-rock chords, wavy drum rolls and a Robert Plant serenade make this rock classic perfect for a day at the beach.

Lay back, stare up at the clouds, and get lost in Bethany Cosentino's fuzzed-out California nostalgia.

4. Major Lazer- "Jessica" (ft. Ezra Koenig)
Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig layers mellow Caribbean vibes on top of another one of Major Lazer's island-influenced electro experiments.

5. Real Estate- "Three Blocks"
No matter the weather, the warm, dreamy sounds of this New Jersey trio will always put you right next to the sea.

6. Dirty Projectors- "No Intention"
Rippled with light, dancing guitar strings, the Dirty Projectors' minimal but colorful sound will make you appreciate the simplicity of a long summer day.

7. Chiddy Bang- "Handclaps and Guitars"
The feel good vibes run strong through this track, which buzzes with energy and a delightfully resonant chorus.

8. Wavves- "Super Soaker"
Nathan Williams' blazing guitar swells with distortion as he radiates raw summer angst in true surf punk fashion.

9. Santigold- "The Keepers"
Bouncing tribal drums ring in a glowing, throw-your-hands-up celebration in this rhythmic sun dance.

10. Cyhi The Prince- "Entourage" (ft. Hit Boy)
Cyhi of G.O.O.D. Music lets the good times roll by taking on a Motown classic.

11. Toro y Moi- "All Alone"
Bursting with liquid synths straight from the 80s, you can practically feel the sand of South Beach between your toes.
