What to Watch For: Isaiah Rashad

There is little doubt in my mind that the helm of the hip-hop renaissance belongs to one clique, and that clique is Top Dawg Entertainment. The Carson, CA collective, which features the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q, has recently signed its newest member Isaiah Rashad. The Chattanooga native holds a great amount of promise for the new school of urban music. With honest, carefree lyrics over exceptionally slick beats, Rashad seems like the perfect addition to a roster that is constantly breaking ground with its 2-steps-ahead creativity. The signing coincides with the release of his latest single titled "Shot You Down," a Southern tongue-lashing over a laid-back beat that echoes Willie Hutch soul. I expect big things from the TDE rookie, whose clean-cut charisma speaks for itself, without the aid of boisterous hooks or gaudy production.
