The List: My Top Ten Dubstep Remixes

Dubstep is notorious for injecting its deep and wobbly sound into virtually every genre of music imaginable. From John Denver to Ellie Goulding, make no mistake--no song is safe! Here are ten remixes that I can never get enough of:

10. John Denver- "Country Roads" (Pretty Lights Remix)
Pretty Lights does a great job of not butchering the nostalgic country anthem that is [the original] "Country Roads." A thick beat with a few wobbles here and there, along with a series of glitched-up Denver samples take you on an auditory acid trip to the Mountain State.

9. Kaskade ft. Mindy Gledhill- "Eyes" (Alvin Risk Remix)
Alvin Risk totally flips the script on this soft and upbeat dance track and turns it into a ferocious attack of ear piercing shrieks and deep, menacing bass growls. The intermittent trance-like backing melody adds to the epic and darkened feel as well, but Mindy's vocals still manage to give the track a sense of beautiful desperation.

8. Kid Sister- "Pro Nails" (Rusko Remix)
Rusko's playful style of bass perfectly compliments Kid Sister's rather silly ode to fingernail fashion. Because superficial pop hits can always be recycled into the grimy mockery that is a dubstep remix...

7. Nero- "Promises" (Skrillex and Nero Remix)
You don't even have to listen to this one to know that it's epic. Dubstep heavyweights Skrillex and Nero give the hit single from Nero's Welcome Reality a more traditional beat while adding a piano riff and of course, that filthy drop that makes you just want to scrunch your face up in disgust.

6. Dev- "In the Dark" (Proper Villains Remix)
I don't think I'd call this one dubstep if it weren't for that magic number 140. Proper Villains take Dev's already flirtatious hit and turn it into a sensual, steady-swaying tune that's perfect for those late and curious hours of the party.

5. Ellie Goulding- "Lights" (Bassnectar Remix)
Picking up the pace of the original "Lights" intro while subtly adding a bass undertone, Bassnectar builds up the emotion until it all pours out in a spellbinding wave of deep and soothing vibrations.

4. Porter Robinson- "Spitfire" (Kill the Noise Remix)
Kill the Noise creates a hard-hitting remix of an already heavy dubstep track. The tempo picks up right from the start, leading you into a roller-coaster drop that gives way to a relentless battery of face-melting  screeches and bass croaks.

3. SebastiAn ft. Mayer Hawthorne- "Love in Motion" (Skrillex Remix)
If you're looking to put a little extra pep in you step, look no further; Skrillex takes SebastiAn's upbeat electronica groove and transforms it into a wildly energetic contrast of thick snarls, bouncy synths and slap-happy bass guitar.

2. Benny Benassi ft. Gary Go- "Cinema" (Skrillex Remix)
Just about every aspect of the original is completely redone in this remix; from the spacey, melodic intro to the wild peaks and valleys of the drop, Skrillex creates an entirely new piece of music--all while keeping Gary's dreamy voice on key.

1. The Marvelettes: "Please Mr. Postman" (Cragga Remix)
Although Cragga's musical profile is virtually limited to his 5 videos on YouTube, this remix is an absolute gem. Everything about this one just seems to flow perfectly; the vocals are strategically cut and pasted to achieve the ideal amount of glitchiness, while the bass tones vaguely mirror the melody of the original 60's hit.
