New and Noteworthy: Big Boi (ft. A$AP Rocky and Phantogram) -"Lines"

I don' think anyone could have expected this one from the Atlanta the hip-hop veteran. While Big Boi has always tended to make consistently original-sounding material, he totally redefines himself with "Lines." Recruiting two highly contrasting sounds, Boi crosses multiple genres and, in effect, composes  what are essentially two separate tracks that seem to blend together beautifilly. He and Rocky cut the BS and keep it raw on their verses which are laid over Phantogram's delicate vocals, along with instrumentals that remind me somewhat of a contemporary revival of Outkast's style from the 90s. While the trio may look questionable on paper, "Lines" is a surprisingly fresh and attractive take on...well... it's hard to pin it to just one category of music! So give it a listen and interpret it how you will. Big Boi's upcoming album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors is set to release December 11th.
