What's on My Playlist: Flosstradamus

After searching for a signature sound among a slew of remixes over the past several years, DJ duo Flosstradamus (Josh Young and Curt Cameruci) have begun to burst out of the Chicago underground and onto the rapidly growing trap music scene (trap music is essentially a blend of gangsta rap and dubstep that is enjoyed by both Atlanta crack pushers and UK rave teens alike). Flosstradamus have seemed to embrace this cultural fusion to its fullest, with a sound that hits in an irresistibly energizing wave of deep bass booms, rousing claps and snares, and blaring sirens. There seems to be only one objective of Floss's music, and that is to get you off your ass and "turned up", as the pair commonly exclaims. Their style emulates the bitter intimidation of the streets in a way that appeals to just about  any club-goer looking to "rage." Slightly reminiscent of hard style dance music in terms of overall energy of the delivery (especially on their X EP), one will find it hard to listen to Floss without either at least nodding their head to the beat or turning the music off in irritation. Although trap music is still in the early stages of development, I would not be surprised to see Flosstradamus as the frontrunners of the movement in the near future. Their efforts to bring the gritty sounds of urban drug rings to the masses through an electronic approach has been steadily successful, and has already landed them appearances on tracks with big name producers such as Diplo and A-Trak. Watch out, and turn up, people...
