What to Watch For: Hucci

While over the past few months I have been scouring the internet far and wide for any potential big-timers of the rapidly blossoming sub-genre of trap music, I had long ago skimmed over Hucci. I had first dismissed the 17-year old's sound as being too minimal, which may have been a bit ignorant of me given that a not-so-surprising majority of trap music might as well be the instrumentation for Gucci Mane's next mix tape. I will say that to enjoy this type of minimalistic dubstep, you may want to invest in a quality pair of headphones... Hucci relies on potent 808 injections, repetitive but hypnotizing drum loops, and eerily distorted samples to lull you into a whirlwind of entrancing simplicity. He may be just another amateur with FL Studio, but in this day and age where studio software is avaliable to almost everyone, you have to step back, take a deep breath, and accept the fact that it may as well be Just Blaze going through the same motions (and even he seems to be embracing the movement ...http://theneedledrop.com/2013/01/just-blaze-x-baauer-higher-loved/). To give you a good taste of Hucci's sound as well as his future endeavors, I suggest listening to a recent preview of his upcoming EP, a track entitled "Yeah!", in which he morphs the soulful Temptations classic "Get Ready" into a glitched-up tribal chant swaying to a giant iron metronome.
